I love music! And I love all kinds of music, or at least should I say that I know how to appreciate each type of music, even the types of music I like less.. But now I want to say how much I get turned off by the whole hip-hop thing!! How can I appreciate the music when it’s followed by 15 kilometers of ATTITUDE!!!!!!!!!!!?????????!!!!!!!!! It makes me hate it!
I was playing in NYC on Wednesday July 3rd, at Hammerstein Ballroom. Cool place, totally rammed as it was the night before July 4th, sound system not bad for once – being a rave – but of course the line-up was all over the place and no artist made any sense with the one before or after. Typical rave! But that’s ok, as in the US often that is how line-ups are made, more based on the quantity than anything else…
So I’m supposed to play at 2am, right after Rabbit In The Moon. Now, I don’t know what happened with his set as I wasn’t there when he started doing his live show, but his performance ended 30 minutes later than it was supposed to be.. When I arrive there and I wait and I wait and I wait, I get told that my set has been moved to later on, as KRS-ONE got upset to have to play later and they decided that they wanted to go on after Rabbit In The Moon. There was absolutely no way to move those huge people as they were like 35 of them and they basically were doing all they wanted, as God knows what kind of guns they were keeping in their pockets!! That is some unbelievable story I know, and in fact I cannot f****** believe that there is no more respect, of others, of contracts, of the promoters who give you the actual chance to work and make money, and of the line-ups established prior to the party and announced to all the fans, because some damn violent attitude has to come and move all things around otherwise they shoot or they beat you up!!!! This is not an attack against the poor promoters as they had absolutely no power towards that retarded YO YO YO YO YO HAN HAN HAN YO YO BOOM BOOM CLAP BOOM YO YO beats that I had to hear for like two hours!!!! They tried to do something about it, but they obviously couldn’t! No one could, we were all sitting there, behind the band, just waiting for hours for them to be over saying YO YO songs! And that’s not all… of course those guys had their typical million guests and a half – each one of them doing YO YO YO HAN HAN YO so I don’t see the difference between any of them!! – and they just literally did all the F*** they wanted to do and they ended-up finishing their so called performance of microphone mstrbtn and noises at like 4:10 AM!! And I was there since 1:30, waiting to go on at 2! But since the party was shutting down sometime before 5 AM I ended up playing only 40 minutes! Very fun!! Very very fun!! I mean, what the hell is this all about? Music is not about attitude and guns and selfishness and arrogance and violence! Is it?!! I can’t believe how badly educated these people were, and I certainly will not believe that whatever they were singing – if singing this is – was of any type of promotional school to peaceful things and nice vibes!
Needless to say I was extremely fuming on that night, and that all the fans that were waiting to hear me play since hours ended up hearing only 40 minutes of my set, as then the lights went on and the security screamed at me for trying to finish my last record!!
Very fun!
So, sorry to everyone who were disappointed and that didn’t know why… well now you know the TRUTH!
