What’s the TRUTH these days?

I haven’t been writing here for almost a month.. I miss writing as I love it so much, but honestly I also miss the time to write! Since my last post I have had a very busy schedule, traveling from Mexico to Europe to South USA and then Canada. All that in 3 weeks. I have had funny stories, of course, and the typical weird experiences I get on the road, but since I haven’t written about them right away now I feel like those stories are far away and I couldn’t write about them as passionately as I usually do when I write just a few days after my trips.
But I do want to give a quick update on how things went in the past few weeks though..

The week after the Toronto and New Orleans trip I was in Mexico to play the ACA Fest. That was a fantastic festival and I have had a great time and lots of rest there, but it is a shame that it rained so much. The ACA people work on this festival for 12 months, and then on the weekend when it is supposed to happen they get the hugest storms and massive rain ever! They had to cancel the saturday night. I got to play on the friday, and it was fun, but I feel so bad for the ACA organizers and all the dj’s who were supposed to play on the saturday night. It is such a shame!! But Mother Nature is the boss, isn’t she…

Typically, I felt sick when I was in Mexico. I don’t know what is wrong with me and being sick all the time! At least if I’d party so much I would understand, but the truth is that I don’t. And every time I get sick I haven’t even been drinking, so that’s not it either. Or, maybe it is…. hehhe.

After Mexico I had one day only to get back and then had to leave again, for Europe. I will not talk about the horrible trip back I had from Mexico, not worth getting upset at that again..

So, Europe.
This year again I played I Love Techno. I was very happy to participate at that massive festival one more time! It is so huge and impressive. Last year my clothes and records didn’t show up so I have had a very bad night. I mean, my other DJ Friends lend me their records so I managed playing a good set, but I was so sad not having my bombs with me! (I call my records my bombs). This year everything was fine, well… everything… not really…
I kinda don’t feel like talking about it as it’s becoming a boring story now, but since it’s the TRUTH I must speak about it. The records and clothes arrived, I was all set to play the best set ever, but I started feeling very ill one hour before my set. The food I ate I guess.. I knew it wasn’t only me though, as Brian too got sick this time and we’ve felt horrible for two days after that show. I did play a strong tight set, but had to bend down below the decks regularly to breath and chill as I felt like I was literally going to faint, a few times during my set. It wasn’t the best feeling I tell you. But all went well… until I got back in my hotel room…….. And I will not share this with you.
I wish to play I Love Techno again next year, and hopefully then all will go perfectly fine.

The night before I Love Techno I played in Zagreb, in Croatia. That club (Club Best) was absolutely fantastic! I enjoyed my night so much! The people were fantastic, the club was amazing and the whole music all night long was just pure, hard, true serious techno! No messing about!
And Peter and his wife, such nice people! They took good care of us and were so kind. Peter is an amazing producer and DJ and, above all, a very kind person and I want to thank him for the nice time spent together as well as the nice and deep talks we’ve had about life and music.

Back from Europe after that quick weekend over, I got here with DJ Heaven. She is here in Montreal since mid-november and we’ve toured together in Dallas, San Antonio and Ottawa last weekend. Thank God we were there for each other last weekend on the road because we needed some mutual support! Time is not very kind to us these days and it doesn’t leave us enough time for all we have to do, and especially not for the rest we need. It’s running too fast! I don’t know why, but he’s not being very cool! This is why I haven’t had time to write any post in here before, even though I wished to.
Is it because he’s participating in a marathon and no one knows about it?
Is it that someone told him to hurry up so I can finally reach that useless ugly sounding age of 27, in less than two weeks?
What the hell is he doing, running so fast?

We are already today! ouch.

Heaven is playing Aria tonight, and I am overly excited to have one weekend off and to go out as a non-dj and go hear another dj play and have a night off and have some fun. I love it! Next thursday we are playing together in Quebec City, for my birthday, and the next day (nov. 29th), I am playing a 6 and + hours set at Aria, for my birthday. It is now a legend, I play every year for my birthday here in Montreal. This is the third year in a row and I hope it’s going to be as magic as the previous two! I can’t wait!

For the rest, well my new mix compilation MB 02 came out last week on TrustTheDJ, you can buy it on www.misstressbarbara.com
I am very proud of that CD, it’s really reflecting what I do these days, it’s pretty hard but constantly funky and it never lets you down.

I also have finished recording my next Misstress Barbara VS Barbara Brown VOL. 2, which is coming out only towards the end of February 2003, but you will hear myself and some other DJ’s playing it until then. The Misstress Barbara track, OUCH MY LIVER!, is in the MB 02 mix compilation so you can find it there if you like..

Alright so that’s it for now. That was a very informal update, I know, but the truth isn’t always hilarious.

Although I wish it were..

Take care for now.

Barbara
